Biography

Tyler is a Doctoral Researcher within the Department of Engineering. His research investigates the measurement of human attention using computer vision and deep learning, and the settings in which this can be applied. While fly-tipping seems a far departure from human attention, the computer vision methods with which it can be detected are not that different. Prior to his PhD, Tyler was a Senior Consultant at Capgemini working on large-scale data analytics implementations for manufacturing and utilities. He has held numerous roles at Boeing, including on autonomous systems and reliability-centred maintenance. He began his technical career at a small-scale aluminium fabricator, after emigrating to the UK from South Africa.

Tyler holds an MPhil in Industrial Systems, Manufacturing and Management from the University of Cambridge, and a BEng (Hons) from the Open University. His doctoral studies are funded by the School of Technology, and he is a recent recipient of the Lee-Yung Family Fund Prize for Entrepreneurship.
